In December 2022, my wife and I marked a significant milestone - five years together. Reflecting on this journey, we couldn't help but notice how little time we actually spent with each other amidst our busy schedules and daily routines.

However, amidst the chaos, we made a simple yet profound promise to each other after tying the knot: to explore the world together.

Our approach is pretty straightforward. Out of the 52 weeks in a year, we reserve some precious time just for us. This special time allows us to escape the grind of everyday life and focus solely on each other. Whether we're lounging on a beach or trekking through mountains, these adventures have brought us closer than ever.

Travel isn't just a hobby for us; it's become an essential part of our relationship. It rejuvenates us, strengthens our bond, and reminds us of what truly matters in life.

So, to anyone reading this, I encourage you to embrace the magic of travel. This blog is the start of a spontaneous series where I'll share our travel tales and tips, hoping to inspire others to embark on their own adventures.

Now, if you're gearing up for your first international trip, here are a few down-to-earth tips to keep in mind:

Keep it Real: Don't get caught up in the hype of Instagram-worthy destinations. Choose places that resonate with you and your budget, whether it's a bustling city or a quiet countryside retreat. We both can’t swim, so it was very obvious for us to feel out of space when we went on a Island Hopping ride in Krabi, hence choosing the first destination that offers the experience you want to do and that will allow you to enjoy is crucial.

Pack Light: Trust me, you don't need half the stuff you think you do. Stick to the essentials, pack layers, and don't forget a reusable water bottle. Pro tip: we saved INR 15,000 by choosing a flight that did not include check-in luggage. Yes, we did Europe in 7 kgs cabin luggage per person and saved INR 15,000 or approx 160 EUROS.

Learn about their culture: Traveling to a new country means immersing yourself in a different culture. Embrace the differences, try new foods, and learn a few basic phrases in the local language. Also, please do some basic research on things to avoid in certain countries - as their laws might be different than what we follow in India and we strongly recommend respecting laws of every country.

Enjoy the Ride: Travel isn't always smooth sailing, and that's part of the adventure. Embrace the highs and lows, and remember to enjoy the journey as much as the destination. Mistakes will happen, plans might not go as intended, but don't be disappointed (remember Bade Bade Shehron mein Choti Choti Baatein Hoti Rehti Hai) chin up, understand what went wrong and ensure the journey ahead is smooth.

So, here's to new beginnings and unforgettable adventures. May your first international trip be the start of a lifetime of wanderlust-filled memories!
